Leland G. Horton primarily practices in the areas of business and property litigation; with particular experience in oil and gas, right of way and servitude, property, contracting, expropriation issues, real estate litigation, and other general business matters. Leland has provided assistance and advice to many businesses and individuals in these areas, including for business disputes, lawsuits, alternative dispute resolution; real estate and property disputes, business advice, contracts, and work on commercial disputes of many types. Leland has also provided advice and analysis with respect to mineral ownership leases, oil and gas production and operational; issues, and royalty matters.
Leland represents both publicly traded and regional energy companies with respect to operational and mineral ownership issues. He has litigated successful result and final settlement in connection with large bank fraud claim. He has also litigated and negotiated claims for oil and gas operating companies in numerous royalty litigation claims.
Leland is a contributor and active participant in the Ark-La-Tex Association of Professional Landmen Annual Seminar for over 14 years, including as speaker and organizer, and has participated in the re-integration of the Shreveport Pro Bono Project into the Shreveport Bar Foundation.
Defended an independent oil and gas company and certain related individuals against contrary claims of property and mineral ownership in United States.
District Court as raised by the United States of America and mineral lessees thereof. The dispute involved conflicting interpretations as to the factual and legal status of certain lands currently covered by a freshwater lake.
Defended a publicly traded oil and gas company and its joint venture partner in a putative class action lawsuit whereby individuals claim to have been damaged and adversely affected by circumstances related to drilling activities, including allegations of water, soil, and air contamination affecting more than 100 individuals and nearby property.
Defended an independent oil and gas producer in litigation claiming that an oil and gas lease covering hundreds of acres had expired for failure to produce natural gas in paying quantities.
Defended an independent oil and gas company in a lawsuit claiming that natural gas from certain wells was not properly routed to a particular pipeline system as contracted.
Pursued claims regarding unpaid invoices for oil and gas services companies in connection with services rendered and to defend claims of negligence in performing contracted services.
Defended a publicly traded oil and gas company against individuals claiming ownership of mineral rights based on failure of title and violation of due process rights in connection with prior tax sale.
